ABOUT JAMUNA
My story is about following my heart, my dream and my passion.
After spending a few years working in the corporate world of Interior Design & Sales and not feeling fully satisfied, I knew there was something more to my life. Something deeper where my heart would sing and i could wake up everyday thrilled to be alive. This was not the case, so i went searching...
I discovered Vippassana Meditation and it opened my world to a new way of being. I did a 10 day silent retreat. It allowed me to see all my inner aspects of my life that i wasn't aware of. I eventualy decided that i needed a drastic change. That i needed to rediscover who Jamuna really is. I quit both jobs and flew to India to take a Certified YA Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training. Here i discovered Yoga, Massage, Contact Improvization (Dance) and a whole new way of relating to this world.
I never looked back since!!
I came across this unique style of bodywork called Ayurvedic Yoga Massage. Immediately after receiving a session I wanted to start training right away. I knew I had to learn this so I could offer it to others. Since then I've also worked with Thai Massage, Breema , BioDynamic Cranial Sacral Therapy, Osteopathy, Hakomi (Body-Mind Psychotherapy) Watsu/Waterdance/Healing dance (Aquatic Therapy), SE (Somatic Experiencing) and more . I am so passionate about the work I do and am so pleased to be on this path. I am continuously updating my skills through my travels to California (Harbin Hot springs) where my greatest teachers reside & also Asia.
I am currently enrolled in 3 year ongoing Hakomi Training. A method and practice of mindfulness, loving presence and deep inquiry into our psycho-somatic behaviors. I am already seeing the fruits of this training on myself and my clients. I am still taking clients daily.
About the Sessions:
Our sessions together, whether it be Thai/Ayurvedic Massage or Watsu (Aquatic Floating Massage, will begin with an invitation for us to listen and inquire to what is truly alive in the present moment. The space is open and entirely yours to share and connect to whatever truth is present for you: Physical discomfort, emotional distress, general fatigue or maybe just the desire to treat yourself, to celebrate life. Whatever arises in our session together I will be fully present and available to respond and meet you in those places. I intuitively draw from an array of acquired tools and skills to respond to what is present. My offering is an inspired dance which ranges from the subtlety of Craniosacral, to the effectiveness of Deep Tissue Massage and to the expansiveness of Thai Massage. I listen to the breath; I feel how tissues respond to touch and how muscles protect or invite under compression; I support the joints to increase mobility. Stretching and opening the whole structure of your being; from the knuckles of your toes, to the bones of your skull: The hips, belly, heart, shoulders and neck. Finding relief from muscular tensions, settling your nervous system and mind, deepening your breath and freeing the natural flow of energy. Often throughout my sessions I use Tibetan Singing Bowls, which create a healing sound bath to aid in your process.
Length of a session:
I offer 1Hr, 1.5Hr, 2Hr, 2.5 Hr & 3 Hr Sessions. Generally for Thai and Ayurvedic Yoga Massage the session would need to be 1.5Hr or longer for maximum benefit.
It takes time for the body to unwind and settle as well as it's good to have extra time for the deeper layers of ourselves to be seen and met.
It is very beneficial to come for a session either weekly or bi-weekly as part of your health maintenance and natural energy restoration. I often work with clients in a progression series, where we address and focus on certain areas of the body, so to aid in greater healing/transformation.
In the Aquatic Massage Sessions I also have the capacity to work with those that are more physically challenged (Full or Partial Paralysis, Multiple Sclerosis or other degenerative diseases) The water is incrediblly liberating for those that have limited mobility and everyone else for that matter.
Each session is invigorating, rejuvenating and relaxing at the same time. We work with breath work and zero gravity principles so that your body feels weightless and free from pain. This massage is absolutely and completely effortless for you. Receiving the benefits of a full yoga class in a smooth and graceful way, without having to do anything. The effects are tangible even days after the session. You will feel greater mobility, lighter, rested and more peaceful in yourself. With my nurturing and intuitive nature I will offer my full and undivided presence and support for any possible emotions or feelings that may arise during our session together. May you feel at home and welcomed
***The massage/ healing work that I do is completely therapeutic in nature and very professional. I do NOT offer any sensual or sexual services so please refrain from contacting me regarding this, if that is what you are interested in.***
What my clients say...
"I am a very fussy massage client - There are probably only 3 massages in my life that stand out as truly effective and yummy and this was one of them. Jamuna offers a unique form of massage that is both gentle, deeply intuitive and powerful as she finds and unlocks the hidden areas in my body that need release. By going beyond even the best forms of deep tissue massage, she combines elements of Thai massage with her own movement practices and is able to reach deep into my joints - providing stretches where needed; muscle soothing; fascia tension release and ultimately relief all over my body.
Try her - Don't even think about the $$ - Its better then excellent" -Ian Bruce

"Jamuna will seem different from the first moment you encounter her. She’s so professional that I immediately felt safe. Her massage room is cozy but uncluttered and is, as she describes, a room filled with love. The ambience is right out of a dream. Then the massage begins and you see what really sets Jamuna apart. Her greatness, her mastery, comes from her dedication. While I never concentrated on it until Jamuna massaged me, most massages are routine for the practitioner, and the masseuse obviously zones out and goes into autopilot It’s almost as though they aren’t there with you. You’ll never feel this way with Jamuna. She’s always present in the massage, concentrating on every part of your body that needs special attention. For me, this was a bad knee that, despite me not telling her about it she focused so much attention on it.
The beauty of a session with her, especially a longer one, is you get to celebrate that you’ll be in the hands of someone who cares and is passionate at what she does. Her unwavering care and attention impacted me emotionally. I’ve read that this was possible in books but never experienced it until now.
Jamuna will remind you, and reawaken a level of feeling safe and cared for that you haven’t experienced since before you thought you could remember. A winter night by the fire on your grandmother’s lap when you were barely more than a toddler will come back to your memory. As Jamuna lovingly manipulates your joints and playfully exercises your limbs, you’ll remember what it’s like to be truly cared for and appreciated. The experience is overwhelming at first, and when you come to terms with it, you’ll feel better than you have in a long, long time.
You’ll remember that you’re lucky to have woken up this morning, and that you’re lucky to have this life. And you’ll remember that your job is to bring goodness and happiness into the world. That’s Jamuna’s mission and, with every session she gives, she sends that clearly to her receiver, and makes the world a little better place. Now how many massages can do that?" -David Simpson

"I've just returned from a heavenly experience of an Ayurvedic yoga massage with Jamuna.. I have a daily yoga practice myself but book these sessions with Jamuna on a somewhat regular basis both for the restorative effect and also for the sense of nurturing that she so generously offers. As a psychotherapist, self care is important to me. These sessions with Jamuna are pure bliss. Do yourself a favour...book one of these for yourself or someone you love. Amazing. :)" -Stephen Fraser
